Paper Moon by Andraste (PG)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: Sort of John/Harvey-ish
Author on LJ:

Author Website: Altogether Elsewhere
Why this must be read: Harvey is one of Farscape's oddest and most fascinating characters, and this is easily one of the best Harvey fics I've ever read. It brilliantly captures a sense of what it must be like to be Harvey, a newly-constructed entity living in a world made of someone else's memories. It deftly evokes the whole range of emotions Harvey's capable of conjuring, so that by turns we are amused by him, sorry for him, and perhaps a little creeped out by him. And it explains in solidly believable character terms a certain canonical action of Harvey's that I have always found more than a little difficult to understand.

An excerpt:
In the beginning, John used music to block him out. For a while it worked like a charm: he'd start to sing, and Harvey would be so dazzled by the resulting flood of images and associations from his host's subconscious that he'd get distracted and his control would slip.
He's nothing if not adaptable.
With time, he learned to turn the trick to his own advantage. Every night he opens the box of records in John's head, puts something on to play, kicks back to watch the accompanying show. It's even more educational than television. There's still so much that Harvey doesn't understand, that he needs to learn.
It has to be his little secret, of course. When John sings and hums to himself during his waking hours Harvey usually feigns disinterest. But he does all of this for his host.
In the end, all the important songs are love songs.
