Why this must be read:
I haven't pointed you at any slash this month, not because I don't love it but because several of the best-kown slash authors in this fandom had written gen stories I liked even better. Also because I didn't want to drown you in Magneto/Xavier fic *g*. On my last day, though, I'll try to correct the oversight.
I've tried to stick to reccing stories about the core X-Men cast, characters likely to be familiar to casual readers and those who have only seen the movies/cartoons. But I know for a fact that you don't need to know anything about Rictor or Shatterstar to enjoy this, since I've never read an issue of X-Force (the title they once inhabited) in my life.
It's a love story that I think stands up no matter how little you know about those involved. In the end, mutants are only people, who face all the awkward questions others deal with. This is a story about Rictor failing to deal.
