In Another Life by Saraid and Sinead (NC-17)

Fandom: SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/OFC Blair/OMC Jim/Blair
Author Website: The Pumpkin Patch
Why this must be read:

This has to be the most painful tearjerker fanfic ever written. I mean it. It's deathfic, and that's painful, but it's the lives that are painful, not the death itself. Jim and Blair are as close as two people can be, but Jim is straight and Blair won't ask for what he can't have. What follows are relationships, children, careers, self-destruction, healing, life, death, all of it in vivid and breathtaking detail.

In Another Life

It's eerie, I was just thinking about this fic yesterday, but couldn't remember the title or author(s). I was going to post on TSStoryfinders about it.

People either love this story or hate it. I love it and it always makes me cry. Kitty

I love it, but I'll never read it again. I cried for two days the first time round...

Good rec, though. It's certainly a classic in the fandom.

That fic is like the epitome of everything I don't read and yet not only did I read it back then - for reasons that still elude me to these days - but I also found it incredibly beautiful, though of course awfully painful and heartbreaking. Thank God for the whole 'in another life it'll be different' concept though, it helped a little bit save my sanity *sniffles again at the thought*

Which is my way of saying, good rec! Sorry I forgot that part lol

You're doing a great job :-). You're spoiling us - it's great to see so many TS recs!

Oh god! Although I love Saraid, especially her You'll always be... series (don't know Sinead though) I'm really afraid to start this one. Do I need a weepy weekend right now? Ponders... Perhaps I'll save this for a rainy day?

Well, his was a rainy Sunday, so I thought why not? And I basically spent the whole day reading this wonderful, fabulous story. A thousand thanks for reccing this! Apparently Sinead is Jane Mailander? It gives her eMail addy at the end, next to Saraid's. No wonder this fic is so damn great.

It's one of those wonderful mature stories I love to pieces. We all like the fairytale "and they lived happily ever after" ficcies, yet, it often is that way in live that we *don't* get what we desire the most. And still we have to live the life and it can still be a happy one. Mostly.

I prefer great literal stories like this a thousand times over the mundane "Blair gets abducted/hurt/raped and Jim rescues him and they have great sex" most writers dish out. It's a pity that most of the above commenters said they refuse to read this fic again. Not only is it worth a second, third and fourth reading, they could actually learn something from it.

Cool classic (I remember reading it back in 2000) rec. That's great when the fandom (and You :) do not forget its old fannish jewels.

this is silly...

i just got a loc off a rec here, and, slut that i am, i hurried over to read the rec (which i haven't actually found yet) and found this one instead. it was very nice to see it. and, if anyone's wondering, the url for my sentinal series page, which has all the Dirty Little Secret and Always Be stories linked. but they won't be there much longer because there's a zine coming out. eventually.

thanks :)

The website seems to be down. Do you know if this is going to be permanent? Any other locations for the fic?

Thanks.

i *Am * silly

i was just going through my folder and found this... apparently i forgot to add the url? my daughter had a baby two weeks ago! and i'm just starting to pay attention to other things.

so here's the link for dls and my other ts series, and you should be able to use it to get to *all* of my stories. so they are in one place. i think

Just read your "In Another Life" and left a comment for you on crack_van. Basically I wanted to let you know that the story was beautiful and I can't stop crying.

I just read this straight through, not pausing for anything except to grab more tissues. This one hurt like a bitch. But yeah, beautifully written, fully realized. Real. I may be in tears for days.
