Any Means Necessary by Ophelia (R)

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: Not that I could find
Author Website: Nada
Why this must be read:

Whew, is this story a ride. Novel-length (like so much X-Files fiction), this story is intense, fast-paced, somewhat tragic, and really addictive. Ophelia does a great job writing Mulder here, and I love Scully, who is competent and compassionate. This is the type of story where you really get involved in Mulder's search for justice, and the emotional payout is worth the effort.

The story is older, which makes it hard to find the author or her webpage, but it's an excellent example of her work and X-Files fiction.

Excerpt: Scully shut off the engine and got out. "You all right?" she asked, walking over to him. She was also wearing the outfit that screamed "FBI Agent" the most loudly, a knee length navy skirt and blazer, matching shoes, white blouse. Well. The Syndicate could say a lot of things about the X Files Unit, but they couldn't call them sloppy.

Mulder shrugged in answer to her question. "If I say 'yes,' you won't believe me. If I say 'no,' you'll haul my ass home and call Werber."

"Should I?" she asked. She appeared deadly serious. "Is that how distressed you are?"

He looked away from her. "I need to do this," he said softly. "This thing started with me, I want it to end with me." He strode off across the parking lot, both afraid and eager to meet his foe. No -- his temporary allies. Shit.

Summary: Mulder suffers a brutal sexual attack, which unexpectedly puts him
and the Consortium on the same side.
