What If... by Shedoc (NC-17)
Fandom: SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author Website: Shedoc's Sanctuary
Why this must be read:
For my last rec of the month, I wanted to end on a happier note. This story's an old favorite of mine, not because of the writing, which is lovely, or the characterization, which is great, but because even though Jim and Blair end up together, Blair makes a happy life for himself without Jim for a time, finding a family and a career of his own when he lodges with a small-town sheriff's family and joins the local PD. I love the idea that love is something you work to make better and better, not something you have no choice but to accept.
"Hey Sandburg - take it easy for a minute," Tony followed him out, "How's the ankle?"
"Peachy," Blair grinned back, wiping his face with his hand. Tony pulled out a chair and pushed his deputy into it.
"Uh huh," he snorted, "Which translated into English means throbbing like crazy because you're putting too much strain onto it."
Blair laughed up at him, waving his hands around like he was batting away insects.
"You wound me sir!" he laughed, "Honestly Tony, I'm a big boy now. I can take care of myself."
"Why can't you let us help?" Tony asked without really meaning too, "You give so much to us, why can't we give back?"
A serious expression came over Blair - a mixture of understanding and sadness. Tony hated that expression - he often saw it on his friend late at night or just after he made one of those silent phone calls that Tony had traced back to Blair's old captain in Cascade.
"I've looked after myself for a long time, Tony. Sometimes it's easier to be self-reliant. It's not like I don't know you'd help me when I need it. It's easier to give than receive I guess," Blair sighed, and decided to change the subject before he totally embarrassed himself.

Thanks so much for the feedback, by the way. Sentinel fandom is so well-organized that I susually assume everyone's already read all the stories I love, so it's very encouraging to know I'm not boring anyone with the recs!

Thanks for all the great recs! I even started B.J. Sandburg which I've avoided like the devil and found the first ten chapters hilarious - Jim crawling away from Blairette on the floor because he can't find the strength to stand and walk! LOL!!
I don't know whether I know the above fic, although I've read Sheadoc. But it can't hurt to re-read, cannit? And yes to what you've said about love up there.
Have a good time and come back somewhen, yes?

I'm moving all my wordly possessions twice in the next two weeks, once out of my apartment and into storage, the second time into my new apartment, so I made sure to get my twelve recs in before my computer got boxed up. But don't worry; I've still got a Sentinel vid rec coming up, and next month I'm doing Stargate SG-1. Four straight months of recs -- Marvel, Sentinel, Stargate and Harry Potter -- you guys are going to be sick of me by the time I'm done!

Sadly I do not really read SG-1, but perhaps you could rec a few "beginners' fics"? I have watched a couple of eps, but couldn't get into it. But I'm looking forward to you doing HP!
Hope all goes well with your move! And thanks again for the great work!

I'll see what I can do about the SG-1, as a lot of my favorite beginner fics have already been recced. I actually started by reading Sentinel crossovers long before I watched the show; it was fairly easy to pick up the relationships between the characters, and the crossovers used enough backstory explanation to lay everything out.

Yummy!
