Why this must be read:

It's a first time that isn't a first time, and it's a long, satisfying slow courtship between Gibbs and Tony. Tony changes the rules, Gibbs has to scramble to adjust, and somewhere in there they fall in love. Well-written and well-paced, this is a story you should set aside a good chunk of time for and settle down with a nice cup of coffee while you're at it. KSL does a wonderful job of portraying Gibbs's obliviousness, Tony's insecurity, and the miscommunications that happen--along with the fumbling attempts to make things right. These are two men who never quite figured out what they were doing in the first place and now have to go back and start all over again.

"Tony-"

"I already know the drill." Tony held up a hand. "Don’t worry, Boss, no one knows a thing, and no one will. You don’t need to worry about that."

He felt a deep ache in his chest at that thought. Gibbs not wanting anyone to know was probably not related to them being men or even chain of command violations. The older man had flouted authority often enough in the past to get what he wanted. No, their being a secret probably had a lot more to do with him being ashamed of Tony DiNozzo.

Tony shook his head. Vinnie had been right. The one thing he regretted most was that he never had a chance to tell him that. Knowing his friend, he already knew.

He closed his eyes and tipped his head back to face the sun. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Gibbs?"

"Yeah, Tony?"

"Lock the door on your way out."
