Crossover fanfiction is difficult to write well, so I tend to be pretty choosy about reading them unless someone has already recommended them. Well, it’s my turn to recommend, and I realized that I really couldn’t think of any Avengers crossovers that hadn’t already been recommended here or elsewhere. I freely admit to inputting some search terms on the AO3 and just trawling through looking for anything interesting to read. I’m glad I did, because I found several excellent stories…and a few series I’ll need to keep an eye on. But this one was especially fun:

There is also an unfinished sequel, but since we can’t rec them, I will just point out that it exists.
Summary: by self: When Blair finds Tony in a conference it is both the beginning and the end of a lot of possibilities. By the time Gibbs and then Jim come into the story all heck has broken loose. I liked the spot on descriptions of the NCIS team. Not for the Gibbs or Abby lovers, but perfect for the Tony droolers!

Another story of “Firsts” and yes, another NCIS crossover, this time very slight but it is important. This AU futuristic story explores a world where Sentinels and Guides are known, but with a twist that is unlike any other I have ever read. I found the portrayal of the role of Guides and Sentinels in this story very interesting. And while the body of the story is PG13, the epilogue is NC17and Very worth the wait.

While short this story still covers all of the wonderful points that are Sentinel and Slash. Yes I know, another crossover, but I felt this shows the importance of the relationships in different stages.

Along the way their paths cross with a greed driven man who for nefarious reasons, seems determined to follow them to discover what he believes to be, a ‘hidden’ treasure.

Please be aware that while this story *is* a crossover with NCIS its primary focal point is The Sentinel; in the grand scheme of things NCIS plays a relatively small, but cruical role.

Why this must be read: Anyone who knows me also knows that I'm an anti-Tiva-shipper. And yet, I'm reccing a story that features this pairing. Why? Because it's so awesomely written that I can actually see this pairing. The fic doesn't actually focus on the sex part; this is about the emotional and psychological ramifications of a D/s relationship gone wrong. It ties in beautifully with canon (season 6, in case anyone wants to avoid spoilers) and explores the characters (be it Tony, Ziva, Gibbs or Abby) realistically.

The only complaint I have is that there isn't more to this story. It needs a sequel. So Very Much.

Why this must be read: I love "how they got together" stories. And this one is so brilliant and funny and, well, realistic that it fills me with glee. The author got the boys' voices down pat, and the whole thing is just so true to the characters. I love that the whole story takes its sweet time before Tony and Tim actually end up together. It's almost as if we, the readers, are being courted throughout the fic.

And really, the very last line? Kills me every single time I read it. :)

Why this must be read: Okay, this story will not be for everyone. It features non-con elements (not overly explicit) and some violence. Some may consider the story to feature kink, most notably puppy play, though it's very clearly not portrayed as part of kinky play between two consenting adults, so I'm reluctant to label it as such.

Basically, to sum it up, Tony is forced into puppy play by a girl friend, sold to a kennel and then saved by Gibbs. But it's so much more than this! What I love so much about this story is the psychological aftermath of a Tony who has been kidnapped and basically brainwashed. Gibbs doesn't get the whole puppy mindset but grudgingly helps Tony anyway, allowing Tony to escape into the puppyspace he clearly still needs. The story is gen, and not even overly father-son, but it shows the strong (platonic) love Gibbs has for Tony, how he instinctively knows what's best for the younger man and helping him heal by accepting the, shall we say, quirks and offering his support in his typical Gibbs-like way.

As a wonderful bonus, Abby is totally awesome and kick-ass in this story.

Why you must watch this vid: I think that Mélanie is, hands down, the best vidder in this fandom. Her vids span all genres from hilariously funny to tear-jerkingly sad, from shippy to gen. I cannot rec her enough! Which is also why I had a hard time picking just one video to rec, to be honest. I finally decided to rec this one because, even though I've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Kate, Mélanie shows us the wonderful sibling rivalry between Tony and Kate that I adored so much. Kelly is still alive, though Shannon is dead, so Gibbs is a single father (and very protective of his little girl who just happens to be friends with Tony). I love the characterization throughout the story. Tony is still Tony, smart, funny, and not afraid to butt head with Gibbs. Besides, his Hearing Dog Elisha is awesome and totally reason enough to read the story! :)

Why this must be read: I needed a good laugh after the day I had, so I went to read this gem again, and now I'm chuckling and giggling and wiping tears of laughter away. Some would call it cracky, others might just consider it brilliant humor--either way, this story will make you laugh out loud.

The basic premise? Gibbs is a Stupidhead who shot down Tony (aka Loverboy) because of Rule 12. And so Tony decides to follow all the rules to a T, just to show Gibbs how stupid his rules are. And the rest of the team is very excited to help make Stupidhead see the light during "Operation: Wedding in Vermont". And they are so wonderfully devious about it. You'll almost feel sorry for Gibbs. Almost. *g*

Why this must be read: I'm surprised this story hasn't been recced before. It's an epic tale of a young Marine named Gibbs meeting a little boy called Tony and their journey together through the years. You definitely need to take the time to really delve into the story, get to know the OCs (of which there are many, but they're pretty much all awesome) and allow yourself to be swept away by this epic AU. You can't help but fall in love with the characters, and even though this is as AU as it gets, they're all still most definitely the characters we know and adore.

There's joy and heartache, funny moments and angst, and through it all, a bond between Gibbs and Tony that is so strong, nothing can't keep them apart (even though it may look like it a couple of times!). Please do heed the warnings in the story header, but believe me when I tell you that it's well worth giving the story a try anyway.

This story has Tony trying to communicate with his team mates while he's suffering from a concussion. Unfortunately, his English-Marine, English-Geek and English-Smug dictionaries need some...tweaking. *g* (Also? There are Monty Python quotes. You can't go wrong with a story that features Monty Python quotes!)
