Why this must be read:
I wanted to rec something light and fun, and I love the women of the West Wing, who don't get to interact with one another often enough. The premise of this one is simple: CJ Cregg, Andrea Wyatt, and Donna Moss attempt to keep themselves entertained on a long trek through the Midwest, with amusing results. Sparkling dialogue with an underlying sweetness.
Here's a taste:
“The bartender told me this was the Kansas equivalent of a Long Island iced tea,” CJ says skeptically as she slides into the booth across from Donna, setting one of the drinks down in front of her. “It freaks me out a little, but we’re gonna try it.”
“What’s in it?” Donna asks, peering at the concoction.
“As I understand it…everything.” CJ grins and shrugs. “When in Rome.”
Donna’s silent for a long moment before she sighs. “I wish we were in Rome. I think I’d like it there.”
“You would. Great food, beautiful buildings, handsome men. What’s not to love?” CJ sips her drink, glancing around the bar. “Who would you sleep with first?”
Donna blinks, confused. “In Rome?” She’s only a drink behind CJ, but she thought they were both doing pretty well.

Go and enjoy. And laugh a lot.
