Why this must be read: "Songline," originally written for the Teyla Ficathon at

teylafen, is a preseries gen fic that fills in Teyla's backstory. For the Athosians, songs mark all important life occasions, and this fic follows Teyla as she sings them: a funeral song, a wedding song, a song to mark the birth of a child. Characters and events drawn from canon are alluded to and expanded on: the importance of Charin to Teyla, Halling's role among the Athosians, the occasion of Jinto's birth, all of which take on a new resonance when viewed through the prism of what is to come.

Finally, there is the Vicci. You asked if we have any happy songs, Teyla? I believe this is the happiest of all. Why? Because death is not always to be feared, not if one is blessed to live a long life, to become not only honorata but to die because the years, not the Wraith, have sapped all the strength from the body you wear.
