Nighthawks by Aervir (PG-13)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Rose/Romana II
Author on LJ:
aervir
Author Website: None that I can find.
Why this story must be read:
In my continuing quest to recommend a wide variety of stories, I bring you Rose/Romana II. It's handled with a lovely touch. This is a short piece, a wistful and sad sort of sweet.
Fred pauses to order another stickily sweet and brightly coloured beverage, while Rose clumsily strokes her hand, wondering whether she should tell her new friend about Jimmy Stone, who was a chav rather than a bohemian, only took her to Torquay and left her with a bathroom full of piss and puke.
"It wasn’t a messy separation. He took the house and the child, and I got the pet and the opportunity to travel. Never could stand that bloody dog, but the boy was even more annoying. However, I stopped travelling. I came back, only to find out that he can’t have been the person I took him for. Sometimes, I suspect I never really knew him. Unless bohemian nutters always turn into ruthless utilitarians with a penchant for genocide. Well, believe the worst because it usually happens..."
At a loss for words, Rose shoves her the drink the barkeeper has just poured for Fred, rather glad that she didn’t bring up Jimmy Stone and the bathroom. It’d probably pale in comparison.
