Why this must be read:

I seem to be making a habit of recommending unusual pairings. Which is actually rather appropriate given that this is a fandom where a not insignificant minority of writers are sexually obsessed with the school squid.

Here the strangeness of the pairing is as apparent to the protagonists as it is to the reader. One of reasons the story works is that on one level it's a satire of a widespread fandom tendency to write a great deal a saccharine mush based on the idea that true love is always found in your early teens, and never lost thereafter.

And on anther level it's just a brilliantly written, supremely witty, romantic comedy in the Odd Couple mode.

Either way it's well worth your time.

FYI - the author has apparently pulled this fic off the net, along with the rest of her fanworks, or at the least they're well buried and/or F-Locked.
