Hi! I'm Turlough and this is the first time I'm driving the van. You will probably see a lot of Lancecentric stories recced this month (yes, I'm a Lance girl at heart :-) but also Backstreet Boys stories and Nsync/BSB crossovers.

Why this must be read: Because this is the Lance/Eminem story and I'm amazed that someone hasn't recced it already! Because it's quiet and understated and sweet in a totally non-saccharine way. Lance happens to meet Eminem at an aquarium in Connecticut and this is the story about what happened afterwards. I love the way Genee Li writes, how she makes the words flow over the page. There's always something warm and sensual over her prose, even in a story like this without any explicit sex.

Excerpt: Lance feels Lonnie's hand on his back again and they're moving before Lance answers the call, but that's okay, he can walk and talk at the same time without much trouble now, even with his arms full of sniffling girl. Lance knows the casino hasn't skipped a beat, knows the slot machines are still cha-chinging and the dealers are still dealing, because this is Vegas, baby, and all bets are on, always, but still, the only sounds he can hear right now are Hailie's jagged breaths and Em's voice in his ear, fast and furious and sounding more like Chris than Lance would ever, ever, mention.

Thanks, I'll take a look, but the more I think about it the more I realise that it's the whole concept of rating fiction that is totally foreign to me. I can understand it in a way when it comes to film, even though I would probably have a very hard time trying to apply the abstract rules to a real film.

yeah. I don't quite understand rating fic myself, but if you have to do it, at least you've got some clues as to what us Americans will think from them when you do. lol.

BTW I've never really thought much about the "minors keep away" that some people put on their journals and websites but recently I started wondering. I always forget to ask though so I'm doing it now: Is it actually forbidden for minors in the US to read certain things? What kind of things in that case and who decides? And who will get prosecuted in case of transgression?

I believe, and I may very well be wrong, that anything involving explicit sex is illegal for anyone under 18, no matter what the medium. Who decides... lawmakers. lol. There is, I'm sure, a list of criteria someplace in the halls of law. I know that things vary from state to state. When they do prosecute people it's usually as many people as they can. The whole 'disclaimer' thing is a touchy subject legally speaking. There's a huge group of people who believe they are enough, that parents of young children should watch their children, monitor them enough to make them visiting over 18 sites etc. impossible. Others think they should be more specific and that the sites etc should do the monitoring.

But this contradicts some of what's said in that film ratings info you linked to above *feels baffled* And sex is illegal but violence is okey, you Americans really are weird :-) In Sweden any discussion about these topics always centers on violence. (Which I think is right really because I remember as a kid that violence frightened me but grownups doing icky things was just boring or at most baffling.) And of course it's never in relation to fiction, "just" films and computer games and sometimes pictures.

If there is another rating system you'd prefer to use, that's fine. Some people use the Australian system here.

The more I think about it the more I understand that it's the whole concept of rating fiction that is totally foreing to me. I understand it a bit better when it comes to movies but applying it to the written word feels very, very weird to me. I'll try my best with the US system because I don't think I understand the "new" Swedish movie system any better (when I was a kid a film was either allowed for everyone or only for those over 15, all this "over 7, over 11, over 15" just confuses me :-)
