Why this must be read:

I tend to seek out long stories that take their time exploring the characters but every once in a great while I come across something like After Clouds, Sun that is short and potent and stays with me long after I've read it. It takes into account the connection between Chris and Vin and what the aftermath might be like if that thoughtless connection somehow failed them under duress. There is something about Vin being hurt and yet only worried about Chris that confirms that the connection is still there.

After I read it the thought that kept haunting me is that even during the worst of it Vin must have been keenly aware of what Chris was experiencing and that kind of connection just ... I don't have the words. I'm so glad you enjoyed the rec!
