Rough Stones is a sequel to Blood Trail where Vin was nearly whipped to death by Clyde Darwell, the brother of a man Vin tracked and sent to prison. It begins with Vin restless and heading out of town only for Chris to find out that Darwell has escaped custody. With Vin still on the mend, Chris and Buck join the hunt for Darwell who wears all of them down by doing nothing more than staying just ahead of them and leaving death in his wake. Hurt and flinty, Vin is described as a man who doesn’t trust to touch, a bit like a wild creature lately tamed. Lately tamed. Such a beautiful and apt description. This is a powerful story of friendship between not only Chris and Vin but also Buck.
