Why this must be read: Sometimes characters are pretty together and fans just ship the shiny. Not here -- Helo & Racetrack might not be one of the "canon" ships of the fandom but darned ifpoisontaster hasn't taken the reader on a plausible path through the last episodes of S2 to challenge your expectations and leave you wondering if maybe this is what really happened after all. There's a lovely grounding to the story that jumps back and forth through time, grappling with the grim realities of it all yet rising with a hopefulness and grit that reflect the essential qualities of the central characters.
