Curiously Strong by Dawn M. Pares (NC-17)
It seems appropriate that this story be rec’ed after Bone’s magnificent “Territorial Imperative, as a number of writers were inspired enough by it to respond to the infamous “Kitchen Table Challenge.” This story remains, for me, one of the best….

Why this must be read:
What is it about an inebriated Blair that’s so damned appealing? Does the appeal lie in the fact that an inebriated Blair makes for a very amusing and devastatingly sexy take-charge Blair? Perhaps. In this terrific PWP (really, the only point of the story is to get Jim and Blair nekkid and on the kitchen table going for it), Dawn M. Pares masterfully conveys the complexity of her characters through an economy of action and dialogue. Her Blair zings back and forth, practically vibrating off the page, and her Jim, while gruff on the surface, is happily along for the ride that Blair’s guiding him on.
One of my favorite kinds of story is one where we get to see Jim and Blair already established in their relationship and comfortable with each other in every way. While it’s always fun to see how authors get the boys together, I take a certain delight in being dropped into stories where their relationship is already in progress. And even though “Curiously Strong” is a fairly brief PWP, it’s a highly nuanced window into the give-and-take dynamic of the boys’ relationship, and it’s wonderful and hot and sexy and fun! Enjoy!
He grins at me, and the guy is lit up, he's like one of those Christmas Luminaries, you know, those white paper bags with candles inside? He's aglow, and he lays his hand on my knee and squeezes it.
"Can you feel that?" he asks, voice a little rough from the gin, and it's like a contact high. Whatever Sandburg's feeling is slipping right into my bloodstream, and I nod a little, feeling my cheeks get hot.
"How about this," he whispers, eyes bright, and he's folded his hand around mine and settled it right on the bulge building behind his fly.
Jesus. I love it when he's like this.
"All systems are go, Sandburg," I assure him, feeling my own dick try to stand up as I knead his lightly.
For a moment his eyes slip shut, and the red tip of his tongue dabs his lips.
Only rigorous self-discipline, and the fact that there's a crowd of Sandburg's academic cronies milling around not 10 feet away, keeps me from stretching over and licking his lips for him.
Then, Blair removes my hand, places it on the steering wheel and pats it reassuringly. He smooths his palm along the inside of my thigh, and the drag on the denim is sending little electric shocks to my groin.
Jesus.
I tighten my hands on the wheel until my bones creak.
Hands off, Ellison. Unless you and the kid want to be the next guest stars on "True Crime: Prime Time".
"Keep those engines, revved, Jim, 'cause I've got something special in mind."
Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks again!
