Why this must be read: When I was looking for recs to make this month, I almost couldn't believe that this story hadn't been rec'd before. Not only is the writing excellent, but the characterisations are simply gorgeous. For anyone who wants to know who Billy is -- this story will tell you.
Billy isn’t stupid.
It seems strange to him that the fact would even need to be reiterated. He’s been called a lot of things in his life, but stupid isn’t one of them.
He tries to think of other words that might mean the same thing, but that aren’t quite as harsh. Words he could entertain as having anything to do with him. Words like… naïve. Gullible. Blind.
In love.
Maybe he is stupid. But he’d rather call it something else.
