Why this must be read: The triangle (quandrangle? polygon!) that ensues in Superman Returns with Lois Lane, engaged to Richard, while coping with the return of her former lover and all unawares of his secret identity could be fodder for cheesy excess. Instead,thedeadparrot treats all the characters respectfully, painting an emotionally realistic picture of the fallout. Best of all, this story meets the difficult challenge of showing Lois falling for the bumbling but true blue Clark Kent. Surprised?
