Why this must be read: This imagines that Vila survives the massacre at Gauda Prime, only to be imprisoned and interrogated. All you need to know is that he was first a member of the crew on the spaceship Liberator, then of a slightly different crew on Scorpio. And he has been, for a lot of the time, afraid, the butt of jokes and has never had it easy, but looking back on earlier times in his life, anything seems better than where he is now… This is one of those very intense, short fics one shouldn't quote from; every word needs to be read in just that order. It's a heart-tugger if you like Vila (who wouldn't?) but not in the least sentimental, just realistic and bleak. It also proves there is good writing on fanfiction.net, if you look hard enough….

"Until It's Gone" is also up at the Hermit Library (http://www.hermit.org/blakes7/Library/DispStor.cgi?SR=13481&ST=0445&COUNT), just for the record.
And many thanks for the rec! I am blushing. :)
