Paternity Blues and Puppy Dog Tails by Jen Riddler (NC-17)

Fandom: SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair, minor Jim/Naomi
Author Website: Nine Muses
Why this must be read:

This is one of several stories in the fandom with sequels by other people where all the stories are very much worth reading. Jim and Blair want a child, which Naomi carries to term. What follows is life, messy, complicated, and wonderful.

"Yeah. You, me, Mom and the turkey baster."

Blair's eyes widened in horror as Jim looked away.

"It was a turkey baster, wasn't it?" he had to ask.

Jim's gaze had dropped to the floor.

"Jim! That was my mother! How could you!" Blair shrieked.

"I was nervous, she helped, it just happened."

"Oh God Oh God oh God oh God." Blair was holding his hands over his ears, muttering his mantra over and over.

Well, because I like to give new stories a shot, I did read the first story. It isn't my thing. Sorry. I see Jim sleeping with Naomi as a complete and utter betrayal of Blair in the story. It would be one thing for Naomi to act as a surrogate, it is another thing for Naomi to seduce her son's lover and get pregnant by him, then expect her son to raise the child, his half-brother as his "son" with his lover.

I found Jim to be OOC in the story and the slant on Naomi to be skewed - even she's not that bad on the show. * g* Maybe the stories get better, but after reading the first one completely, like I said, it isn't the Jim and Blair I like to read. You might feel differently.

But that's why [livejournal.com profile] crack_van is so cool, everyone's recs are varied. What you like I might despise, and what I like you might think is crap. *eg* It makes for great choices and discussion.

I agree with you totally. I was so ANGRY for Blair, and Jim's reaction "you're behaving like a child," made my blood boil. I only read the first one - that was enough for me.

Nice to see Jim and Blair dealing with the issues people of same gender are going through with their children. Thanks for these recs.
