Let You Go by Paddy (PG-13)
Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK UK
Pairing: Stuart/Vince
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Paddy's Fics @ Across the Pond
Why this must be read:
This is a beautiful, angsty future fic about Vince dealing with Hazel's death. I love the relationship between Vince and Hazel; really I just plain love Hazel. I like Stuart and Vince's relationship as portrayed in this story, as well. They've been together for years, and even though Stuart's still a bastard, he takes care of things when Vince can't. This story is a fantastic love story for Hazel's character.
But I was there every day, willing her to live, not able to take my eyes off her, looking for some sign that she was going to be well, refusing to let myself see the effects of illness on her.
I went on and on at her, at Stuart, at anyone who would listen. At anyone with ears.
Miracle cures. New treatments. Remission that could last for years and years. It would be all right. It had to be all right. This wasn't going to happen to my mum. If I wished it away...
It was Stuart who made me see. I think Hazel put him up to it, by now she must have been sick of my wittering on. I don't blame her. But still. I had to keep hoping.
I tried to stop Stuart from saying the words by talking on and on at him, not letting him speak. He let me prattle on until I had run out of steam. Then he took my hand, looked at me, and told me straight. Because he had to.
"Vince. She's dying."
