Isometry by syntax6 (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: home of the slug slayer
Why this must be read:
It's hard for me to believe no one has rec'd any syntax6 yet, so I feel it my duty to do so now. This is a little different from the rest of my comfort fic so far. Firstly, it's much longer than any of the others. Secondly, it has the cancer arc as its backdrop: a rather unhappy premise. Syntax6 is most known for her excellent casefiles. Although there's no casefile here, unless you count the cancer, Isometry is written with the same depth of understanding of the Mulder/Scully dynamic that Syntax6 brings to her casefiles. And I think writing realistic relationship development during this arc takes a great deal of talent. There are comic as well as tragic moments in this tale, and particularly poignant counterpoints to several well-loved season four episodes. There's also an OFC, creating a little Mulder/Other tension. But never fear, the true schmoop is MSR all the way. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll never look at a pickle the same way again.
