The Case of the Exuberant G-Man by aka "Jake" (NC-17)

Pairing: Mulder/Scully

Why this must be read: It's the story of a casefile--literally. While waiting for a meeting with Kersh, Scully indulges Mulder by telling him a story, a "bawdy tale" about the X-File of all X-Files--the return of the Blob. But except for the frame story at the beginning and the end, and a few interruptions, it's written much like a regular casefile story.

It just happens to be funny as hell. It's a casefile, which I love; it's got well-written Mulder/Scully sex, which I also love; and despite the utterly ridiculous premise, it's relatively plausible, just like the funny episodes of the series. Definitely a great read.

"The Blob is the greatest makeout movie ever, Scully," Mulder informs me and he and Dukes nod at each other in manly agreement.

"How do you figure that?"

"Remember how the movie starts, Scully?" my hound dog partner quizzes. "Falling stars. Cool cars. Lusty teenagers. Lots of groping."

Dukes rubs his tattooed hands together and licks his beefy lips. I'm feeling a tad queasy.

"Let's investigate the real-life crime first, Mulder. We can talk about extra curricular activities later."

Mulder is predictably agreeable. I gotta admit it's both a happy and sad truth that Mulder is equally turned on by the ideas of necking in the back of a dark theatre and investigating a legendary creature like the Blob. There are times when this works to my advantage, then again, there are times when I am left feeling more than a little frustrated. Need I mention the mothmen vs. the wine-and-cheese-in-a-Florida-hotel-room disappointment of 1997?
