Why this must be read: It brings in the science-nerdy and fanon-druggy aspects of Lex in a truly compelling fashion, allows Clark to grow up a little in the sweetest possibly way, and is totally romantic while insisting that the reader consider terrible, cruel futures. It makes chaos theory kind of sexy and lets both of the woobie boys at least try to be selfless. Personally, I'd give this a PG-13 rating as written, but you know it went NC-17 about three paragraphs after she stopped writing it...

Read, enjoy, and tell her how much you love it.

I believe all three of the stories I've recommended thus far were fairly well-known in SV fandom by the time I wandered in. Watching a few new fandoms start up, I am glad I was late to the SV party because it meant I had a lot of really good fic to wallow in right away. There are a lot of stories that I really loved on first reading and...no longer love, but this one definitely stuck with me.

It's great, isn't it? This is one of those stories that definitely could have only been written in S1, before show canon started coloring fic to a greater degree, but this story still holds up as a lovely, denialist AU. I still love the characterization of both Clark and Lex--through no fault of the writing, characterization in a lot of stories written during S1 just doesn't ring true any more because of changes we've seen onscreen.

You're more than welcome. I am very, very lax in sending official feedback--usually I'm shaking too hard and my thinking is too incoherent when I really like a story for me to type anything non-stalkerish in the immediate aftermath. I'm trying to rec only one story or series from each author I really, really like, but I'm tempted to pimp the "Ride" stories anyway. And where's that semi-promised third story, btw? :)

This is the story that got me hooked on SV, before I'd ever watched an entire episode of the show. It's one of a very small number of fics that's made me write instant, embarrassingly worshipful feedback, and I'd still say that it's one of the best pieces of fanfic I've ever read - all categories, all fandoms. I could reread this an endless number of times, and I probably have. *g*
