She, bagheera_san and xparrot are like the unholy trinity, whose characterization of Clark and Lex has never failed to drive me totally and completely crazy!! its like , they are *better* (better being a relative term) than on the show, but lightyears from being wholly likeable. One of Plnunn's fic characteristics is like dissecting everything, both in finished stories as well as current WIPs, things that are like being glossed over in the show, or conveniently forgotten. I read her clex fics, despite more often than not hating clark and lex. They are so very human, they make mistakes, make wrong assumptions and conclusions, are more often idiotic than not, but they are still larger than life, and their errors are bigger, and hurt more and , they try harder then on the show...and ALL ITS SO MADDENING! *hits them* all in all, Plnunn not just has lots of new Clex WIP going on, her entire SV work, the fics and the clex comics and art etc ( sample on her homepage are entirely brilliant! The way she was able to capture Clark's feelings as I thought, they should have been in that SV episode "Spell" , is simply perfect! or the briefest moment, Clark allowed himself the realization that Lex might have stayed at that piano, disregarding hunger, thirst, exhaustion, until one of them consumed him... and he died. Clark was unprepared for the surge of grief that struck him then, bitter and nauseating and stinging like Kryptonite. Contemplating a world without Lex Luthor made him feel like all the wind had left his body in a rush. And I was worried about a stupid interview.
And why Lex? Again? God, why not him for once? Lex, Lana, Chloe, his parents... It was always everyone he cared about. Everyone he loved. As if somehow the cosmos knew how best to twist the knife. Lex. It would have to have been Lex. Nothing could be worse.

She wrote the SV classic "achilles' heel", and then left SV for FUCKING 5 years!! Thank god, she came back, and *what* a comeback it was!!! 2007 was SV-clex wise definitely her year, I had a hard time to decide which of her fics to choose, coz well, there is a limit on the rec ;) But this story. I did not choose because of the plot. Its great, but no, its rather been, the characterization of both, Clark and Lex, they are down to the core who I thought, they were and at the same time, who I wanted them to be. Hence, if the characterization is *that* good, I usually don't even care, if the main character was to die. Coz its still like, consistent :D Lex's eyes changed. Clark couldn't say how they did, only that something shifted in those colorless recesses, like water moving under ice. "I'm going to die," he said.

Why this must be read: Miss Roxy has so many epic stories, that you might wonder why I'm reccing a short PWP. Well, I've been reccing a lot of very long fics this month, with very heavy, sometimes dark, themes and thought it would be nice to have something shorter and lighter. This story is very old school clex, but even though it's a PWP, Roxy takes Clark's age into account. The Clark here is innocent, but not naive. Lex's voice is wonderful. He's calm on the outside and spazzing on the inside. Some of his thoughts during the course of this fic are hysterical, and I'd advise you not to be drinking anything while reading. Roxy has an off-beat sense of humor that is used to great effect throughout this marvelous story.

Where does that leave Clark and Lex?
The answers lie within this wonderful story. The author creates a very believable scenerio for both men, in how they might react to Lana's death and how it changes them. It's an emotional, messy process, not easy at all.
Jonathan and Martha appear in this story as well, and their characters are spot on too. It's a great AU of this episode, and a take I've never seen before. I hope you'll head on over to enjoy it.

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Lex/Bruce Wayne Length: ~250,000 words Author on LJ: rednihilist Author Website: none Why this must be read: I've labeled this NC-17 because there are a few moments in this novel-length story that earn that rating, but they very few and far between. This AU epic is set around the premise of Lionel finding baby Kal-El in the corn field instead of the Kents and how that changed things. It did not change things for the better for poor little Kal-El - or Colin in this story, Lin for short. From start to finish, this is one of the best constructed stories I've ever read. The author kept her characters consistent and believable in their behavior; she kept the story on track and didn't leave any glaring holes in her plot. The story was kept moving at a good pace and I never got the feeling of being bogged down as I read it. She has some wonderful original characters and a great Bruce Wayne. Why this must be read: In Abyss, Clark has the Fortress take Chloe's memories of all things Kryptonian, including his secret. In Legion, she gets all of her memories back, but doesn't remember what Clark had done. This story wonders what would have happened if she did remember. I absolutely love the scene in which Chloe confronts Clark with what he did, and I can only wish that the writers of the show were this good. Chloe doesn't let Clark off the hook, and she says things to him that so many of us wished had been written for her. Beyond that, something about the first four chapters (not including the prologue) just blew me away. I can't say to much or it'll ruin the impact, just don't stop reading. You won't regret it.
The rest of the story is just as wonderful, and the author does get us to a believable happy ending. The journey isn't a short one though, and there is much angst and drama along the way. Most characters from the show make an appearance at one time or another, even some that we haven't seen for a while. Although I say the pairing is Clark/ Lex, the two are not together for most of this story. Instead, the author takes a look at what life would be like for a Clark to be accepted for who he is and has no reason to fear green K. The amount of people the author has show up in the story from Smallville is a delight, one of whom will provide fans with a nice sense of closure when her fate is revealed. Why this must be read: Set in Wales during ancient Roman times this AU story fits into the time period very well, adding many details of societies, dress, and behavior. Better yet, the author fits in bits of SV canon as well. Several canon characters besides Clark and Lex fit into the story, although names have been cleverly changed to better fit the time period. It took me most of the story to figure one of them out. While most of the story does take place in the past, it is also a future fic as well. Mix them all together and what comes out is a funny, light-hearted read with a bit of hotness to add spice.

As I was then, I'm mainly a Clex girl so most of my recs will feature that pairing. However, I will make an effort to rec a few that feature other relationships. Why this must be read: People find out about Clark and Lex's 'secret relationship' but the boys' don't know they know. This story is simply a joy to read. The author used multiple POVs to tell the story, and manages to capture everyone's characterization very well (even if it is through rose-tinted glasses some of the time), although my favorites are Chloe and Pete. There's a large amount of humor in the story as well, and there's plenty of porn throughout. I tried to pick an excerpt to include, but there was just too many good parts. I couldn't decide which one to share, and finally decided to do without in an effort to get the rec done before I had to go to bed.

Her fics are hilarious! You will laugh yourself silly. Most of her stories are more Smallville than DC but her Mercy is NOT Tess Mercer, but the Mercy Graves from the comics, and she's priceless. Best character depiction ever of her! In this fic, Kon-El exists and it's kind of a smush between Smallville and DC Comics. There's a death in the family and Clark freaks and runs away, and Connor moves in with Lex, and then Clark returns all lonely and slightly angsty and slightly horny. The song tells a story about a guy who's both pushing a girl away for her own good and reaching out to her because he can't do it without her.
