Why this must be read: First of all, this story's about the Seventh Doctor and Ace, possibly the best TARDIS team ever. And it's believable Seven/Ace, understated and bittersweet. It also connects nicely with the Tenth Doctor's "wither and die" speech in School Reunion. It's easy to think the Doctor was talking about Ace in that scene.
