Why this must be read:

This was probably one of the very first Highlander stories that I ever read many, many years ago when I first discovered the online fandom--probably shortly before season 6 began, since that’s when I jumped on board...Archangel was the first episode I saw. After all these years, Archangel Redeemed is still an incredible piece of work, and manages to provide a great explanation for exactly why Methos refused to help during the Archangel debacle. It also reveals the reasons for certain gaps in the old guy’s memories.

The sanctuary was chilled and silent but the candles burned bright and
Methos was kneeling in front of the barren altar. It was an odd gesture,
and Joe's unease stirred.

"Say a little prayer with me, Joe. Paulo." Methos' voice was raw, rough,
but his expression seemed controlled, calm, the pale eyes closed. He had
lain his sword on the steps in front of the altar, MacLeod's katana just as
carefully laid out. Cleaned. Bright. Methos had taken good care of it.

Paulo knelt, crossing himself, while Joe stood and bowed his head. He had
not known Darius, but it seemed fitting that their knowledge, their answer,
should come here, in his sacred place. And that the answer was not to kill.
So simple. Don't fight. Not with your friends, not with a demon. Just, be
easy.

It was a balm of sorts and Joe drew a sigh of relief and then frowned at
the odd, unfamiliar scent, the smell, the odor of the ancient chapel.

"Something unpleasant, Joe?" Methos asked, only the voice was wrong. So was
the expression when the Immortal turned his cold-eyed gaze on Joe and rose
to his feet. "Something unexpected? So simple. Did you really think that
after a thousand years I would let something as trivial as common sense get
in my way?"

Joe could not react as the iron hand reached out and grabbed the front of
his jacket and he was hauled close. Close enough to feel the ice rippling
off the familiar form, to see the hint of red glaze that obscured the hazel
eyes and to know that such a smile had never, ever touched Methos' face
before.

The moan that escaped him was as much for self-loathing as fear. How could
he have not known, not seen the danger? They had seen it in the notes.
Methos had said it. The demon needed an Immortal host.

It had found one.

Oh.my.God!

This was the first story I ever read in Highlander fandom, all those years ago in 1997? I remember not even knowing that this fandom had slash then, but it is a wonderful read and an amazing mix of gen and maybe a touch pre-slash *sighs*

Thanks for the memories this brought back!
