Why this must be read:
Alone in the dark of night, Giles lets his mind turn to how he could best hurt Angel. His thoughts seem an understandable reaction to a combination of burdens: the shock of Angel's return from hell at the start of season three; the loss of Jenny Calendar, who had been brutally killed by Angelus; and to Giles's frustrating memories of his helplessness under the torture Angelus inflicted on him at the close of season two.
Yet as Giles continues to consider, the associations and connections engendered by his vengeful thoughts drive him to an even darker conclusion of how he might cause Angel the greatest amount of pain.
A rich, dark character piece, one that exposes the troubled intersections of Giles's past and present.
