Deep End, by Kat Allison (PG-13)

Why this must be read: This piece has a slow, easy sensuality that perfectly mirrors the climate and the setting. It's a simple premise: Fraser and Ray are swimming. But it's a much deeper metaphor for their life together, and for Fraser in particular, as he realizes things about the life he has now. I love the almost lyric quality to some of the prose, and the warmth between the two of them in the story.
For long moments they drifted. Fraser closed his eyes, temporarily abandoning his vigilance and his responsibilities, just feeling Ray's body against his, and the water holding them both. There was no way to tell, in that moment, where the one became the other, where water became flesh became air, all of them warm, wet, caressing; moving together, gently, up and then down, push and pull, the rhythm of Ray's body, over him, under his hands, following the rhythm of the waves, creating that rhythm. When Ray finally spoke, he could feel the words as clearly as he could hear the.
