Past and Stars by Torch (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ:
flambeau
Author Website: the flambeau factory
Why this must be read:
The X-Files was my very first fandom and Torch was one of the first writers whose fiction blew me away, but unlike many other XF stories from those days, her work has truly stood the test of time. Going through the XF section of her web page today, I couldn't find a single story I wouldn't happily rec here now. What I settled on, though, is something breathtakingly beautiful.
Past and Stars is a series of brief stories set in what Torch calls an "AU-in-the-future", where Mulder and Krycek are secret allies in fighting the Consortium and the alien colonization. Each story is no more than a brief scene, taken from a whole that is not explained, but the moments Torch shows us are so vivid and captivating that you can feel the universe of circumstances that has brought them about. Each fic depicts a meeting in darkness, charged with danger, desperation and desire, painted with lyrical language and Torch's unexpected, exact imagery. There isn't a word here that is out of place, no sentence that is less than gorgeous.
Past and Stars, in cronological order:
Witness tree
Fool star
No new year
Came down like water
