Chemistry by Louise Wu (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ: Not to my knowledge.
Author Website: LZL Slash Factory
Why this must be read:
There are a lot of stories where Alex Krycek - international triple agent, assassin and spy - comes in from the cold and starts a new life with Mulder on the right side of the law. This novel-length fic fascinates me because it tries to deal with this scenario in a near-realistic fashion. What would it really take for someone like Alex to be able to start over? Well, to begin with, he'd have to pay for his crimes. Chemistry is a rare example of a story where Krycek actually goes to jail and does his time, and the way Louise Wu deals with that is why this fic has stayed with me. It's M/K slash meets OZ, with all the unflinching brutality of that kind of prison story, and it packs quite a punch. But there is a lot more to Chemistry than that, including a beautiful Mulder/Krycek romance that stretches into everyday life without diminishing any of the shows characters. It's a massive read, but well worth your time.
