Looking over the recs by my colleague, hafren one can see that, although she has more taste and critical judgment in her little finger than I have in my whole body, nevertheless she concentrated on literature and downplayed Filth, one of the basic Fic Groups.

To complement her rec of Hades' Terminal, I'd like to propose Hera's Resolution. (Hades is the darkfic side of Hera, or vice versa). Yes, this is a PWP, but one of the sweetest, best-natured ones you'll ever find. Furthermore, in a generally Avonerastic fandom, it adopts a viewpoint (or dual viewpoint--All of Avon and a Salient Part of Avon) of drooling Blakelust.

The setup is that Blake has been downplanet for 28 days and 27 nights <i>doing whatever that political thing he did was</i>. And, on form, Blake would want a good rest when he returned to the Liberator. <i>So you, Avon told his aching cock, will just have to wait. Oh come on, it replied. We're in bed anyway. It bobbed and twitched hopefully against the flat of his belly. Quick one off the wrist?</i>

And Blake's last line...awww. Just awww. And I don't even like Blake.

Yes, that is a lovely one. It isn't that I don't like filth, BTW. What I was concentrating on was not Lit but Angst, knowing that isn't one of your areas of liking, and the thing about angstfics is that by their nature people are not so much getting it on as agonising about why they aren't getting it on, or why it went wrong when they did. Hence you do Hera and I do Hades (that sounds like a song from a musical...)
One of the nice things for me about Resolution is that I, reading in Eeyore mode, was waiting for something to go wrong which never did. Blake's time on-planet has left him tanned and fitter than usual; Avon notices the change, and I had half convinced myself it would turn out not to be Blake at all but the clone or some such. Just shows how the right kind of reader can angst up anything!
