Harsh Continent by 30toseoul (PG-13)
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ:
30toseoul
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:
30toseoul writes about Antarctica better than anyone else in SGA fandom. In a way that makes sense, afterall she's been there, unlike most of the rest of us. But it's not the weight of her experience that makes this story so terrific, it's the skill she uses in describing it. 30toseoul's Antarctica is a place both familiar and exotic, a fascinating jumble of the mundane and the spectacular. Less a single story than a series of vignettes, Harsh Continent shows us Antarctica as John Sheppard sees it, from his arrival through the events of Rising. A great take on John pre-Atlantis and an excellent complement to that first episode.
