Why this must be read:

Jim and Blair break up and, much to Jim's consternation, Blair begins dating Rafe. What I really like is the way that there is no great big reset button when Jim and Blair start dating again. The events of the story change him, just like they would change a person in real life and that makes the story more real and the characters more appealing.

Actually, I can agree with a lot of this. On the other hand, there's a *lot* of fic out there where all of the above is true, but with Jim instead of Blair. When I read this, I think I had just read a bunch of slave!fic and was needing a story where everyone revolved around Blair.

The plus side: you're definitely going to like today's rec, which features a much more balanced relationship (and is, it has to be said, considerably less melodramatic:)

Hm. I remember reading a slave!Jim AU (sort of -- more like sentinels are second-class citizens!Jim AU, which is often the same thing in Sentinel fic), but I can't remember the title. If I find it, I'll pass the info on.
