Why this must be read:

I have to end the month (um, locally it's just edged into next month, but I haven't gone to bed yet...) with a rec for what may be my favourite popslash story of all.

No, I don't have an mpreg kink, I just... This is the story of how a relationship between two reluctant, wary people comes into solidity, and I think it is wonderful. The pregnancy handwaving is just detailed enough to make it workable (plus, diagrams!); the practicalities are dealt with so well that I can't help but feel, if men these days did get pregnant, this would be how they'd manage. More importantly, if *Chris Kirkpatrick* got pregnant, this would be how *he* would deal with it. And Lance is bewildered and outraged and gradually realises this is the best thing that ever happened in his life.

It's not an mpreg-as-kink story, it's a love story, and I adore it.

“This is a little unbelievable,” Lance said.
Chris shrugged. “Like I said, don’t worry about it. I don’t expect anything from you.”
“Why would you ...” Lance stopped suddenly, and there his belly went again, diving for his toes. Chris had lifted up a little, and whoa, Lance thought, a sledgehammer of information hitting his head, look at his stomach, and then a second later, and what the hell is he telling me?
“Don’t hurt yourself thinking about it.” Chris pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head and tucked his hands into the front pocket. Through the ripples of fabric, Lance could tell they were on his belly. “Whatever, Bass. I don’t need you for any of it, okay?”
“Oh,” Lance said as the sledgehammer of knowledge took one last swing at his temples.
“Oh,” Chris echoed, rolling his eyes again.
They sat there, staring at each other. Lance really wanted that vodka now.

Huh. I was just thinking on the way home this afternoon that I'd re-read MPREG. Good rec.

I have so much love for this story!! It's not the love story that makes me love it so much though, it's the friendship. Not only the friendship between Chris and Lance and the friendship between all the guys, but also the friendship that we only get to see glimpses of, the one between Chris and the other fathers. I also love how all the characterisations just feel so right!
