The Blind Eye Affair by Evan Nicholas (PG13)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: none
Author on LJ:
evan_nicholas
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:
Evan is one of the very newest writers to join the UNCLE fandom (although he's not new to writing as such, having already produced great fic for a diverse range of fandoms) and he immediately made an impact. His style is unmistakable – economical, witty, packed with great turns of phrase and snarky dialogue – and his characterisation an absolute delight. One of the things I enjoy most about his stories is the way he doesn't restrict himself to one view of the characters (his Baker's Dozen, which has already been recced, is a terrific example of this, where he rings the changes on the range of possible relationships between Napoleon and Illya in a virtuoso manner). As he himself says, “It's fun to see how much wiggle room there actually is within the essential framework of canon.” “The Blind Eye Affair” showcases all of Evan's talents for humour and quirky characterisation, whilst dealing with an essentially serious theme.
Manacled together and fleeing from Thrush in the wilds of the Mid-West, Napoleon and Illya are forced to take refuge with Napoleon's cousin, who up till now has believed he is an investment banker. A night of revelations follows...
