THIS STORY TAKES PLACE IN A FICTIONAL, FANTASY UNIVERSE, IN WHICH (nearly) EVERYONE TAKES PART IN BDSM SEX. Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon/Illya Length: 40,463 Author on LJ: tdancinghands Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/tdancinghands/pseuds/Taylor%20Dancinghands and http://www.tdancinghands.com/ For my last story offering this month, I’d like to introduce you to tdancinghands. This story is different than others I have highlighted but I found it well written and a very different view of our Guys. A mixture of the Alpha Top Napoleon Solo who is assigned sub Illya Kuryakin as a partner on a mission. The Slash is expletive but enjoyable. The writing is excellent and tdancinghands pulls the reader in and anxious for the next chapter. Not your normal Man from UNCLE story but one that you’ll not forget. Secrets are discovered and reveal by both man which could end their careers but the caring they share comes out within each line you read. Hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. http://archiveofourown.org/works/866688/chapters/1663101

The Illya and Napoleon's emotional turmoil plays out in a believable but sad story. Both men face demons that almost destroy them and their partnership. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/4584703/Fiorenza-a Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 14,100 Author on LJ: none Author Website:http://www.fanfiction.net/u/4584703/Fiorenza-a Why this must be read:A rescue, a small island, and trust of an old friend, gives the reader a look into the Russian’s past. Usually stories focus on Napoleon protection of his partner but Fiorenza-a story looks at Illya protection of his partners mind. Seeking the help of a person from his past, we see that although he states he doesn’t believe in God it is a priest he ask for help. Concern for his partner’s mind, Illya knows that Napoleon wouldn’t want to go ‘home’ to UNCLE. Florenza-a intertwines the past with the present to make a story full of caring and danger. And shows how neither partner will give up on the other. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9347089/1/The-Island

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon and Illya Length: 3378 & 5001 words Author on LJ: Spikesgirl Author Website:http://archiveofourown.org/users/spikesgirl58/pseuds/spikesgirl58 Why this must be read:I’ve read many fics that have address what happen after Napoleon and Illya left UNCLE. Spikesgirl’s had developed an in-depth look at their life after they left. The stories that I choice are the couple of the first of the series that tell what happened after they met after 20 years, what cause them to separate and what each has been doing. The development of each character in the series is so clear you can picture each one of them. From the ABBA singing waiter to the chef each person is given an individual identity that makes the reader wanting to know more about them. There are just too many from the series to post here, but I hope you enjoy their lives as much as I do (always waiting for the next one to come out). Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 32,254 words Author on LJ: glennagirl Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2406583/girl-in-the-glenWhy this must be read:A Russian living in America, Illya often is quoted as missing something from home. The assignment this time not only brings back memories of his childhood but puts him in touch with dancers from his country. This story gives his strong feelings of home and enjoyment of those around him until a secret takes some of the joy away. Knowing that a caring relationship can never happen, he uses his skills and his partner’s help to put an end to a Thrush plot. I found this story’s “Twists and turns, drama and angst” enjoyable and not always easy to figure out. A story with tons of surprises and oh yes Serena makes an appearance. As a mystery nut, Pas De Deux give me many opportunities to try to figure out what is happening. Glennagirl has many other great stories and hopefully you’ll enjoy them as much as I do. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6522961/1/The-Pas-De-Deux-Affair

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 9,169 words Author on LJ: Cosmosmariner Author Website: http://cm-fic.livejournal.com/
Why this must be read: Although many stories talk about Napoleon and Illya past partners not many go into detail. This story not only introduces one of Napoleon’s previous partner , but it address the introduction of Illya to this partner, the life of his old partner, and how his past now threatening not only the partner but UNCLE agents who know him.
The surprise career of the old UNCLE agent makes for a fun yet serious story. Illya reaction to the man he replaces is interesting.
Cosmosmariner stories are varied and enjoyable. Plus she writes for a number of communities. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 17,000+ Author on LJ: Nick Solo Author Website: http://manfromuncle.wikifoundry.com/Why this must be read:Napoleon is a man who loves beautiful women and takes every opportunity to meet and date them. However in this story, one woman is attracted to him yet he doesn't know she exists. This story looks at Napoleon as he realizes how shallow he is at times. Because it troubles him deeply, Napoleon learns to see more then what he sees and works on changing that imagine. By the time he realizes what he needs to do, it may be too late. As Waverly has said, "She would even die for you." The second part of the story looks at the outcome of this change of heart. Why this must be read: Avery uses humor and drama in this story to keep the reader engrossed and wondering what will happen next. Illya is missing and only an old lady who is confused seems to have the clues as to where to find him. Following Napoleon’s attempt to figure out what she is trying to tell him, leads not only him to question if she knows what she knows but the reader to wonder if she really knows anything. It is a serious tale with fun undertones. Enjoy her sense of humor and story.

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E Pairing: none Length: 3,757 Author on LJ: Avirra Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2244444/Avirra
Why this must be read: We all wonder what Illya was like as a child, the program only gave us small peeks at his earlier life and very few at that. Avirra uses a very deadly Thrush invention to give Napoleon a look at his partner’s life. This story takes what many of us have imagined from the glances we were given and brings it to life. Her descriptions of that life is so realistic it takes the reader into the past of Illya Kuryakin. This is but one of her excellent stories.

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none Length: 28,471 Author on LJ: Pactnmmt Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/Pactnmmt/pseuds/Pactnmmt
Why this must be read: The story was three years in the making but well worth it. Pactnmmt didn't miss an emotion with this, the twist and turns kept the reader unsure of what would happen next and who is on whose side. Yet all through it all Napoleon and Illya never forgot the standards of UNCLE and their loyalty to the organization, each other, and Mr. Waverly. I have read few stories that I would want to read again and again but this is one of them.

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Length: 6,590 Author on LJ: elmey Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/elmey/pseuds/elmey
Why this must be read: Victor Marton makes an appearance in this emotional exploration that leads the reader into Illya's mind and his feelings. Shadows of things just beyond his vision continues to confuse and haunt him forming patterns that make no sense. Only an oboe seemed to keep him grounded, that and Napoleon. Elmey’s story of an attempt to psychologically control the agent is one you shouldn’t miss.

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none Length: 10,836 Author on LJ: mrua7 Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2753497/MLaw Why this must be read:A Leaf Moves is a moving story of Illya’s survival in a Yugoslavian prison and Napoleon’s search for his partner. As she always does, Mlaw combines research of the region and time with an interweaving plot. This time she gives the reader a ride into a nightmare existence that Illya is thrown into. Only the hope that Napoleon wouldn’t give up on him kept him going. A good summary of Mlaw’s story about their partnership come in the words that Napoleon says this time. “I may be later but I’m always there.” http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8464325/1/A-Leaf-Moves

Alynwa look at Waverly brings forth a man who care about the people who work under him. The ‘Old Fox’ plays it cool although the cold fiery he feels toward this man is kept under control. The final punishment more than fits the crimes committed in the past and in the present and shows Waverly is not a man to cross. She has many great stories showing the many sides of our Men from UNCLE that the reader is sure to enjoy. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2464674/alynwa

Why this must be read:
A fan of the who-done-it and close-door-mystery, Spikesgirl58's The Seven Deadly Sins story filled all my wishes. She was the winner of the 2013 MFU Fan Q award and my first thoughts when reading this was shades of Twilight Zone. Spikesgirl58 combines, horror, humor, mystery and the seven deadly sins in a story that was both very entertaining and disturbing. Seven children of a Thrush Chief and UNCLE are the beneficences of his estate. While keeping themselves alive, they must try to discover who the killer is.

Title: The Disturbance in the Force Affair Pairings: Illya Kuryakin/Napoleon Solo, Han Solo/Luke Skywalker Length: Novella Author on LJ: ladyraAuthor Website: Visions of Pretty BoysWhy this must be read:As a crossover, this succeeds with plenty of a/plot and b/characterization and c/juxtaposition of the GFFA with Our Galaxy. Along with a nifty website, ladyra gets my vote as a top multi-fandom author with a charming introduction on her site: "Happy Endings, All the Time. Seriously. Medium Angst, always with lots of payoff. No partner betrayals, no rapes, no unrecoverable injuries, just love love love. And some sex." So much to like, to savor about each universe she portrays, the timeless one of Star Wars and the Twentieth Century one of Man from U.N.C.L.E, that this rec is one of the easiest I've ever made. Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 3018 words Author on LJ: azdakAuthor Website: Azdak on AO3Why this must be read:I was going to use this rec on Halloween, but since I might not have electricity at that point and forewarned being forearmed, etc. you're getting it today ;) I may have mentioned once or thrice how much I love stories that dig into the unexplored corners of canon and let us know who the characters are, in a way that what happens on the screen doesn't. And let's face it, Season 4 is fertile ground for such explorations: so much darkness, so little clarity. After Thrush Roulette Illya is adamant that the Thrush brainwashing he was subjected to, the brainwashing that would have used his deepest fear against him, was never completed. And when Napoleon presses him as they walk down the New York sidewalks at Halloween, surrounded by kids dressed as vampires, zombies and ghosts, Illya starts to tell his partner a strange little story... Monsters is a fascinating, layered exploration of Illya's fears of having the essence of himself that he's always guarded so carefully violated, and of the larger question of Illya as a Russian; the tensions between his loyalty to ideals and his loyalty to a state. And finally, of his need for Napoleon, who knows how to hope. "Is that your worst fear, then?" prompted Napoleon, when the silence showed no signs of ending. "Death by torture?"
Illya shrugged. "Perhaps," he said, at last. "It would depend who was doing the torturing. There are worse things than dying."
"There are?" said Napoleon. "Name one."
"Living," said Illya. "When you should be dead." He looked at Napoleon's puzzled face and bit his lip in frustration. "Let me tell you a story," he said. "A Halloween story. But one without candy at the end." Monsters

Vidder: Third Mouse Musical artist: Mika Pairing: take your pick ;) Vidder on LJ: thirdblindmouseWhy this vid kicks ass: A tribute to the innocents (and not so innocents) of Season One! Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 3511 words Author on LJ: akane42meAuthor Website: akane42me on AO3Why this must be read:The thread that ties all my recs this month together is that they're all stories by very strong writers, and akane42me is one of the best. Her stories are always completely original, with such depth and humanity that they really do go way beyond the boundaries of fanfic. In Doors we're introduced to Hal Donovan as he cleans out the apartment of a dead Section Two agent, and gradually we learn the story of why Hal is on the clean up crew; of what happened to him when he learned that instead of making him Napoleon's partner, Waverly decided to bring some Russian guy to New York. A fantastic character voice, seriousness and horror, leavened as always by akane42me's sly black humor, this is a gorgeous meditation on the doors that open and close in life, on the grace of understanding and acceptance. Two mushy oranges. Two rubber-skinned apples. He should have known better than to buy fresh fruit. Hot sauce. Taco sauce. Steak sauce. Worcestershire sauce. Yellow mustard. Sweet relish. Ketchup. All jumbo size. Geez, this is from last summer’s cook-out. Man, Jimmy. This is some old shit.
I look at him; he’s face down in a puddle of lemon juice. I think, my refrigerator used to look just like this. On days like these, when I’m kneeling in what’s left behind, I think I’m glad to be out of Section Two. What kind of life is that, really? You might as well have a target on your back. But God help me, there’s still a part of me that wants it to be me out there with them, chasing whoever did this to Jimmy. Doors

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: withheld Length: 2903 words Author on LJ: jessebeeAuthor Website: jessebee on AO3Why this must be read:We all have secrets we want no one else to know; what kinds of secrets must Napoleon and Illya have, living the lives they live. And what happens, when suddenly the one person who does matter to them, sees what should have remained hidden. jessebee's writing is tactile; a series of sensory fragments that make the scenes live, the emotions immediate and clear. There's darkness in this story: two scenes, two secrets revealed--but there's strength also. The strength of a friendship that deepens to keep the darkness at bay. Napoleon's fingers tightened spasmodically around the glass. He tilted back and took a swig and then another, and then banged the empty glass down on the coffee table as the alcohol – whisky, he identified with very little interest – burned its way down his throat. He coughed once, then looked at his partner, whose expression gave nothing away. "Say what you came to say, Illya."
Illya reached into his inside jacket pocket and pulled something out, tossed it onto the table between them. A reel of tape. Hints and Allegations

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 6397 words Author on LJ: wiccagirl24Author Website: nothingeverlost on AO3Why this must be read:Napoleon's Aunt Amy. Mentioned once in a throwaway line--in questionable canon at that, the godforsaken Return movie--and an empty canvas for fanfic writers ever after. There have been some good Aunt Amys over time, but the Amy of Kinship is one of my favorites. Illya wakes up in hospital, Napoleon is missing, and a strange woman is sitting in the room. She reminds him of Napoleon and no wonder; it's his partner's Aunt Amy. This is a beautifully drawn picture of Illya (and by extension, Napoleon) interacting with a larger world. Amy recognizes Illya's loneliness, how much he misses Napoleon--and so she reaches out to him. And Illya, we see our cool and careful Illya letting himself be drawn into a friendship that helps fill the growing hole in his life. “Would I be wrong if I said that Napoleon is like family to you?” She surprised him with the question that didn’t seem to have anything to do with the dinner.
He never could define his relationship with Napoleon with words. It was complicated and ever changing, but he was the closest to family Illya had known since he was a child. “You would not be wrong.” Kinship

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kurkyakin Length: ~1600 words Author on LJ: epicyclesAuthor Website: Fairly complete fic listWhy this must be read:This story shimmers with affection: the author's affection for Napoleon and Illya, and Napoleon and Illya's affection for each other. Well, once you get past Illya's pre-emptive grumpiness that is and Napoleon devious plotting, you'll find they're really very fond of each other. We join the two as Illya uses his compass and maps to find a path out of the wilderness where their plane crashed, while Napoleon makes use of his natural guile to plot a path to a slightly different goal... Clever and funny, but tapping a vein of real feeling, Orienteering for Dummies is exactly what you want to read. Now. Really, right now. He was so patient, he was a stone. They folded the maps, gathered what supplies they could salvage from the remains of the aircraft, and headed for the river, all in silence.
He even waited while they walked a mile downstream to find the easiest crossing point. He waited until Illya was ankle-deep in freezing water before broaching the subject again; timing, after all, was everything.
"So, Illya."
"No."

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: none Length: 2232 words Author on LJ: kleenexwomanAuthor Website: Kleenexwoman on AO3Why this must be read:The same thing happened to me last time. I recced another of kleenexwoman's stories, then flailed madly trying to describe it. All I can tell you is that we're in another world now; spooky, beautiful, scary. Yet it's anchored in MFU. Napoleon and Illya are completely themselves, but they're lost in a strange underworld maze: solid as the rock walls they touch to reassure themselves, insubstantial as the people only Illya can see. Vivid, evocative language; witty, heartbreaking, unique. Go read please, you won't regret it. "You idiot," Illya hissed, "what do you think you're doing? What if one of them saw you?"
Napoleon risked a glance over his shoulder. The cavern seemed devoid of people; still, sometimes Illya could detect snipers or spies hidden in places Napoleon wouldn't think to look. "Who? Where are they?"
"Everywhere! Crowds of people, walking round in a ring. They must have all come in while I was bringing you here." The Pomegranate Affair

Gassed up the tank, fastened seatbelt, adjusted the mirrors... no GPS, but I know this road. Here we go! Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Length: 9,762 words Author on LJ: xparrotAuthor Website: Xparrot on AO3Why this must be read:Judging by the numbers, this is already a popular story, but it's never been recc'd here and I have a duty to posterity after all :) A Vienna nightclub and Illya is watching Napoleon and a red-head dance; another mission of course, but it goes badly wrong and Napoleon is shot. It's a gripping set piece, but it's as Illya waits for Napoleon to recover, that the real story takes place. How well these two know each other; but when it comes to the most important thing in their lives, how afraid they are that they don't know each other at all. Save This Dance is told from Illya's point of view, in a restrained, fluid style that perfectly conveys the depth of feeling hiding underneath that stoic reserve. The distance between them didn't matter, however chaste it might appear. Napoleon could seduce without the touch of so much as a finger; this much contact was practically cheating. A couple of jokes, a few sincere compliments, an innocent (or not so innocent, depending) suggestion, and this woman would be thoroughly and inescapably charmed. As they always were.
As you were, Illya reminded himself, with a self-deprecating shake of his head. Even if it wasn't really like that, as Napoleon told him, more than once and quite insistently. "This is different," Napoleon kept saying. Save This Dance

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none Length: approx 5600 words Author on LJ: ceindreadhAuthor Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/14782/ceinWhy this must be read:While our two favorite U.N.C.L.E. agents are on stakeout, Napoleon goes out to pick up lunch for the two of them. He returns to find a fire raging in the abandoned building the two men were using as a base for the reconnaissance mission. Ignoring the personal risks, Napoleon tries to enter the burning building to save his partner, but succumbs to the smoke and is himself rescued by a police officer at the scene. Yet Napoleon is of course still frantic to get his partner out. The police officer tells him to leave it to the firefighters now responding to the call. And then that officer makes another suggestion, one seemingly innocent, yet one that unexpectedly winds up saving Illya's life. Ah, but you see this police officer has certain... connections (and I don't mean Thrush). Rescue Me

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none Length: approx 3100 words Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: http://www.solosojourn.com/unindex.htmWhy this must be read:It's Christmas Eve 1970. Napoleon and Illya are stuck by a bad snow storm in a cabin in Newfoundland. The mission they were there to complete has gone sour. And now they are snowed in during the holidays. Which leaves Napoleon grumpy and frustrated (no gals!). While Illya has found a guitar in the cabin and is perfectly happy to strum and sing. Only not the Christmas tunes Napoleon would prefer; rather Beatles' tunes and rather philosophical ones at that. I'll be honest and say I generally don't much care for stories that depend a great deal on the lyrics from songs to forward them. But this one is sweet if a bit melancholy. The Music Box Affair
