Why this must be read: This rather old-school fic was first published almost ten years ago, but it still has the power to break my heart. Written during the depths of the cancer arc, this story is a powerful description of two people who desperately love one another but who have been subsumed by so much sorrow that this love has become desperate, hopeless. This is the cancer arc in all its brilliant, heart-rending horror. (You'll see at least one more cancer fic from me before the end of the month.)

Incidentally, you should also read "A World To Save" (also by Geb)--a unique and gorgeous post-col.
The ocean beats behind us. The breeze sighs. And
Scully shivers. She wraps her arms around herself
and shivers. I stand up to offer her my warmth.
She tenses, and curls her arms up between us. I
rub her back, stroke her neck. I press my lips to
her hair.

"Sometimes," she says, "I hate you so much."

I close my eyes. But, I still breathe. Still, I
breathe.

She walks away. I watch the tight line of her
shoulders, the wire length of her back. She
disappears into the deep shadow of the verandah.

I think of flightlessness.

Flightless

Hey-just a note-you can't directly link to stories on Gossamer. The site won't let you. However, I'll go find the story myself and give it a read-looking forward to your other recs!

Not a problem!

Can I ask what your icon is from?

That's what I thought :) That was a great episode/arc. That notebook just broke my heart, esp. his drawings of his former incarnations and of Rose, when he says that at some point in the story, she just disappeared....

Are you sure that's the right name? When I click on it, it says that it's not registered.
