Cut-tags
As 60% of respondents want cut-tags at the reccers discretion only (nearly 70% voted against making them mandatory), that’s the way we’re going to handle it. A couple guidelines:
1. If your review is longer than several paragraphs, consider a cut-tag. Either leave a couple paras un-cut, with a "read more" tag hiding the rest, or use your opening paragraph or a similarly generous teaser inside the cut-tag text.
2. If you’re quoting directly from the fic, consider putting that passage behind a cut-tag marked "excerpt", regardless of length. Again, this is not mandatory, but keep in mind some may consider excerpts spoilery.
3. If you do use cut-tags, always leave the story link outside of the tags.
Thanks!

Lol, have you ever considered a career in politics? Nice spin job there. Yes, while almost 70% of people voted for an option other than making them mandatory, more than 90% voted that they be used in some capacity -- the stats don't agree that people voted "against" making them mandatory.
Having gotten that cranky rant in, I am perfectly happy with the new set of suggestions - I don't know what you send to people making recs, but maybe adding a quick note on how to use cut-tags would be good.

Re:
I'm just not sure everyone know how to use cut-tags -- based on some of the LJ entries I've seen while friendsfriendsfriends surfing, I think not. LJ has some pretty funky features that take a bit of getting used to. Now, me, if I see a feature I have to poke it and see what it does, but i recognize that many people aren't that way.
Oh, and do we have a "The Sentinel" rec person for Feb? I haven't seen any. I know it's just a week in, but usually people are pretty excited about their first rec. And, yes, I'll volunteer if we don't.
Re:
And yeah, I'm amending our welcome letter with the cut tag info. Thanks!
