What we saw of the New Caprica arc was pretty frakking cool, but there was only enough to give us the barest taste. There were so many things we didn’t get to see. And one of those things was what happened after Leoben came looking for Kara and found a very sick Sam Anders. Because the next thing we knew, at least as far as Sam was concerned, was that Kara was missing and had been for a very long time, that Sam had fallen back into his old ways of fighting against the Cylon occupation, that Sam was working closely with Tyrol and Tigh. But how did we get there?

One Hundred Twenty Days, Falling gives us that journey. It gives us Sam’s descent into a state that skates along the borders of despair, only to rise up again and fight, because that’s what he does. The Cylons have damaged him, but they haven’t broken him. For him, the Cylons are back and there’s no end in sight. Galactica is gone and this time there won’t be any rescue. (And yes, I am fully aware of the irony, given what we now know, but it really doesn’t lessen the impact of this fic.)

I have a special place for Sam in my heart, I really think he got a bum deal and this fic was just wonderful. It had all the emotions, really could feel his helplessness at the whole situation. This was really well done. Thanks for sharing.
