The Renaissance by Brighid (G)

Fandom: Stargate SG-1

Why this must be read:

Brighid's The Sentinel work has been previously recommended here, but she's written in Stargate as well. I particularly wanted to point out her poetry...

...hey, wait! Where are you going?

Look, I know. Believe me, I do. Fan poetry scary, yes. I have somewhere - or did, I think I may have just lost it because my quotes file is corrupted, ack - a wonderful sonnet redouble based around Buffy's "The Gift," and that was pretty much it for fannish poetry until I found Brighid's work.

Much like Tripoli's story from last weekend, many of Brighid's poems come together for me into something that feels very true, almost revelatory, despite the brevity of the work. (If I hadn't been traveling, I'd have posted this earlier, so they could've been a paired recommendation.) I chose The Renaissance because it's my favorite, mostly for the last stanza, but I don't know that I would argue that it's her best. Do read through more than one; they're short, after all.

I will pray in the oldest circles
where everything that falls
rises.

The Renaissance

Er, utterly irrelevant and off-topic, but there's a link to Sonnet Redouble: The Gift on PolyRecs under Buffy.

And, um, Brighid rocks, everyone. Go read her.
