Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt by Rebelcat (R)

Author Website: Rebelcat’s Starsky & Hutch Fanfic
Why this must be read:
Can you keep a secret? Starsky and Hutch are gay!
Wait a moment, you say, that’s not much of a secret, especially in a slash fic. Ah, but the individual who doesn’t know this secret and why he never will, makes this a very different story indeed. In fact, this is one of the funniest, smartest, and boldest tackling of how sexual orientation is defined within S & H slash that I’ve ever read.
If none of that is reason enough, you’ll just have to read it for the wonderful characterization, unusual cameo appearances (the horny spider plant is my personal favorite), and brilliant metaphors that will leave you smiling hours after you’ve finished the story.

Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
And welcome back from vacation. I hope you had a great time. Or do I hope you had a boring time, so you had to spend your entire vacation writing fic? Hmm, I think I'll try not be selfish, and hope you had a restful and fun time away. :-)

I'm very glad you enjoyed, and I know she'll love to hear from you. Thanks for posting.
Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
Thank you for giving a S & H story a chance. It was an accidental posting of a C.W.W. story rec in the Starsky & Hutch memories that got me hooked on MfU.
Besides you have a cute brunet and blond, in a close friendship and partnership, that is loving and a wee bit competitive, fighting on the side of good. Okay, so instead of Brooks Brothers, the brunet wears tight, tight, impossibly tight jeans, but I'm willing to live with that difference. :-)
Re: Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
You have just unintentionally cleared up a life-long mystery for me - in Guys and Dolls, Sky Masterson tells Sarah that the ideal man she is waiting for is the "breakfast-eating Brooks Brothers type" - and thanks to you I now know that Brooks Bros is a fancy tailor's!
I used to watch S&H eons ago, so at least I knew what I was supposed to be visualising when i read the story :-) The tight jeans were rather unforgettable (though back in the day I thought they were tres gross).
Re: Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
Brooks Brothers is the American men's clothing manufacturer and store, starting in 1818 (although since 1988, it's no longer owned by Americans). They created various distinctive looks for both men's shirts (the button down collar) and suit jackets (the flap that exposes the bottom is oh so very American), and are also famous for making "off-the-rack" suits fashionable and socially acceptable with the well-to-do.
Of course, it didn't hurt that they also provided the wardrobe for all sorts of nattily dressed handsome fellows on the tube, such as Mr. Solo and one of his 253 illegitimate offspring -- Mr. Stephen Colbert. Of course, that's just my theory and I think your recent fun story just provides more support!

Yes, I didn't appreciate the sexploitation of the stars of that show at the time. Now, however, I'm enjoying my second adolescence (way more than the first).
Re: Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
I didn't know who Mr Stephen Colbert-Solo was until I googled him, and I see what you mean! Though he also bears a strong resemblance to Wesley Wyndham-Price from Angel, which makes for a very intriguing bloodline indeed. Of course, if Wesley was actually another of the 253, it would explain why his father hated him...
Re: Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
The "breakfasting-eating" stumped me at first, but my friend Adrienne just pointed out that opposed to cool beatniks that stay out all night, a "breakfast-eater" would be a morning person who presumably worked 9-5. "Brooks Brothers" is a considered classy, but yes, more than a bit square, at least by beatnik standards. :-)

The resemblance is even stronger in action. Their gestures and the stance are similar, but then they are both very confident "characters".

And looked nothing like his so-called father! New canon! Wesley Wyndham-Price is Napoleon Solo's love-child #172.
Oh and look, your delightful "Tending the Garden" just got recc'd here by C.W.W. Good for you!
Re: Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
"I've imagined every bit of him -
from his strong moral fiber
to the wisdom in his head
to the homely aroma of his pipe"
so the Scarsdale Galahad, breakfast-eating Brooks Brothers type response is spot on. Thank you so much!
This business of Napoleon Solo's love children something of a revelation - I hope I don't start seeing them everywhere (it makes me feel like a conspiracy theorist "But don't you see! It makes so much SENSE! Once you accept the basic premise everything falls into place!")
Thank you for the heads-up about the C-V rec - I'm thrilled to bits! It's my first ever MfU rec, and a really nice one, too.
