You know what, I'm not even sure how to begin reccomending this fic. I read it on a lark one day--I think I was following a link in someone's livejournal. I laughed my ass off. You see, I'm a very big Lord of the Rings fan. A Very Big Fan. And anything that pokes fun at it, or--even better--crosses them over with my biggest fandom, makes me happy.

Mercutio takes Pop characters and turns them into LoTR characters, with a very meta twist. They know who they are/were, and that they're in a movie; they know what's happening, and what's going to happen next, and half the fun is waiting to see who's who. This is particularly aimed at those who know both fandoms well, but I think anyone can get the meta and enjoy the snark.

There are so many places to find information on Lord of the Rings. I think the particular place to start would be the official site; my next suggestion would be

casapazzo's primer. Both will give you pretty detailed starter information on the movies and the fandom.

Cast of characters:

Frodo and Sam. If there were really main characters in this story, they'd be it. They don't change.

Britney is Galadriel, Queen of the Elvish realm of Lothlorien who aids the Fellowship on their quest.

NSync:

Chris and Justin are the characters of Merry and Pippin, comic relief turned big honking woobies through the course of the films.

JC becomes Elrond, arguably the oldest Elf in Middle-earth and leader of his people. Other aliases: Agent Smith.

Joey is Treebeard, leader of the Ents, the Tree-herders.

Lance is Legolas, and honestly, if you have no inkling who that is, you've been living under a rock the past four years. Idolized by many, many fans. Well, both of them really.

Backstreet Boys:

AJ's Gimli, a dwarf from the Lonely Mountain representing his people in the Fellowship.

Kevin becomes Aragorn, also known as Strider and Elessar, a fellow who ain't king until the end of the films and really needs a bath. Or at least a better haircare regimen.
