Oh my god it's gorgeous.

Believe me, I am not overstating this story in the least when I say it's gorgeous. It's technically part of a series, but can stand on it's own (in fact I have yet to read the rest of this series) as a really incredible character examination. The writing is just stunning, the characterizations are just sharply gorgeous. Vala is a damn difficult character to write with a suggestion of darkness and pathos hidden behind quick wit and quicker fingers. Here she's all that Vala should be and then some. Her view of the world around her, the people she's getting to know (and love) in the SGC is just breathtaking.

It's one that's not to be missed.
