Everything Nice, by Exhumedpotato (PG-13)
Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: House/Cuddy
Author on LJ:
exhumedpotato
Why this must be read:
Everything Nice and its sequel, Paradoxes and Oxymorons are the best kind of fluffy House/Cuddy fics - ones where House and Cuddy are still recognizably themselves. Babyfic is hard to do well in any fandom (and that probably goes doubly for House) but
exhumedpotato does a superb job on characterization, and the humor is top notch.
"This is karma."
House stared. He didn't move, didn't blink, didn't dare entertain a single thought as Wilson chuckled next to him, his words distant, as in a dream.
"Oh man," Wilson continued with a last laugh, grabbing the stethoscope from around his neck and inserting the ear tips in his ears. "If what goes around doesn't come around, I don't know what my name is."
"Shut up," House grumbled at him, still attempting not to move. Maybe it was a nightmare. A really bad nightmare. That was the only explanation. "This is wrong."
Wilson finally stopped smiling. "It's not wrong, it's—"
"They made a mistake," House insisted.
Wilson scoffed. "How would they make a mistake?"
"Put it back."
"That's not how it works," Wilson explained calmly. "You of all people should know that."
House finally looked up, and the alarm in his eyes was so palpable that Wilson nearly took pity on his friend. But then he remembered the absurdity of the situation, coupled with the absurdity of House's behavior (which, at the very least, was in character), and he merely rolled his eyes.
"House," Wilson said carefully, as if talking to a child. "It's not wrong, it's not a mistake, it's not a nightmare... it's a girl."
