Why this must be read: Because it's extraordinary! Patrick, portrayed by David Hewlett, is a very special kind of crazy. His particular brand of oddness is quite unique and very difficult to put into words. Furthermore, 'A Dog's Breakfast' is a very limited canon--one 90 minute movie. Despite these obstacles, Toft_froggy nails Patrick. I was blown away by how perfectly she captured him. She then ties John Sheppard into ADB canon in a wonderfully creative and sweetly humorous way.

Excerpt:

Patrick frowned, concerned. "You're sounding a little shrill. Is Ryan upsetting you?"

"You are upsetting me, retard. I can't believe you don't even know where she lived - you guys were together for a whole summer! Whatever happened to her, anyway?"

"Oh, I don't know. You can't trust people like that, you know."

"People like what?"

"Like - women. No offence. Femmes fatales! Vixens! They steal your heart away and, and run off with it! Like swag!"

It was all coming back to him now, the pain he'd felt when he got her last letter, especially when he deciphered what it said after correcting all the spelling. SORRY WE CAN'T BE FRIENDS ANYMORE PATRICK THANKS FOR THE LUKE SKYWALKER GOODBYE FOREVER. The void in Patrick's heart got a little more sucking-wound-like when he thought about it. He'd wandered around, stricken, visiting all the places they'd been together, calling for her, in case she came back in a fit of remorse.

NOTE: This story completely spoils the movie. I urge you to watch A Dog's Breakfast before reading this fic.

I adore that story so much. I read it through once before I got the movie, then again after ADB and...Patrick's characterization is so right in the story and John's part in it? YES! The whole time I'm watching the movie I thought "yeah, that could've been John!"
