Brains Go Great With Aquavit by Maggie (PG13)

Why this must be read:
If this were a movie, there would be some sort of musical cue here -- something ominous, maybe, like a thundercrack or bell toll. But all there was, was Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" playing from the deejay table, and Justin saw Kevin for the first time, standing there all tall and delicious in black leather.
I love this little story. This falls into the category of an plot loosely adapted for the story. The guys (minus Chris) are residents of Decorah, Iowa, a town characterised by its Norwegian heritage. "Brains Go Great With Aquavit" is a take off from the movie Practical Magic, one of my favorite movies (though I liked the book better) of the late nineties.
Pretty much any story with a zombie is going to make me stand up and go "Wuh?" But a story deftly written, based on Practical Magic and in the "Dear Reader" style will make me come back again and again.
Again, IMDb has a page on the movie; there's also the website for the movie, which I like a lot because of the pictures from the spellbook used in the movie.
Main Characters:
JC and Lance are (basically) the elder witchy aunts, Jet and Frances. They fix things.
Joey is Sally, the good-hearted plain sister.
Justin is Gillian, the wild and rebellious sister who gets in with the wrong fellow.
Kevin is the Doctor--the antagonist who eventually becomes a zombie.
Chris is a detective in the line of Gary.
Supporting Characters:
Farmer Carter.
Brian works with Joey.
Howie is Chris's much-suffering partner.
