Why this must be read: My favorite type of crossover, hinging on an actor who plays a role in each universe.

Ray and Geoffrey meet in an airport during a snowstorm, post-series for due South and pre-series for Slings and Arrows. This is my favorite type of crossover, in which the actor-identity aspect is exploited for the story; the real pairing behind the scenes is clearly Ray/Fraser, and the imagined intersection of the characters seems very true. Funny, sweet and sad, with a satisfying ending. The story's perfectly understandable if you're familiar with only one (either one!) fandom, but knowing both gives an extra degree of poignancy to the story.

Ray relaxes fractionally. “Huh. I didn’t think you, uh ... well, I guess you do. But you, uh, you seem like a good guy and ... it’s not like I’m not attracted – because, have you looked in a mirror lately? But I can’t say who I’m attracted to, and that’s, that’s not ... uh, nice. Y’know?”

Ray sees Geoffrey get it. “Oh. Oh. When I sat down - you said I looked familiar.”

“Yeah. Kind of,” Ray says. “Kind of exactly.”

“Hmmn.” Geoffrey loosens his arms, but doesn’t let go. “Well, yes. It’s easier that way, isn’t it?”

“Uh-uh.” Ray shakes his head emphatically. “No way. You’re not him. I know you’re not him, okay, do not even suggest that.”

Geoffrey looks down, studies his hands where they’re still holding onto Ray’s sweater. “I’m an actor, Ray,” he says softly. “I can be whoever you want.”
