Gideon's Girl by Linda O (PG-13)
Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: author page on fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:
This is a long, absorbing mystery connected to the Boston dead, full of great character insights, especially for Gideon and Reid. It might not be to everyone's taste, because the plot revolves around an original female character who has a lot of the hallmarks of a Mary Sue. I felt like the writing was strong enough that she wasn't (or maybe I'm just more lenient about girls Reid likes), but your mileage definitely may vary. There's angst and longing and great team action - this story gripped me and wouldn't let me go.
"Where's Gideon?"
"He's not here," Prentiss said irritably. "He took the day off."
"Two in a row? That's not like him."
"He was here, but this girl came in …"
"Morning," JJ said brightly. "What am I missing?"
"Ghosts," Garcia said.
"Gideon's taking another day off," Reid added.
"And he's with a girl," Morgan completed.
JJ looked at them one at a time. "Oh." And then, "What?"
(As a side note,
yuletide has quite a few Criminal Minds stories on offer this year. I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but knowing Yuletide, they're probably good.)
