This is a long, engrossing, thoroughly enjoyable story about how Danny and Rusty became Danny & Rusty, starting when they were teenagers, just trying to eke out a living.

An excerpt:

"There’re other, easier ways." Rusty met Danny as he walked through the packed parking lot of the beach. The asphalt was newish and so hot he was pretty sure the bottoms of his flip-flops were melting. Rusty looked at the black-headed boy standing there in the glare of the three o’clock hour sunshine, looked at his red O.P. swimming trunks and his easy stance with the rainbow-colored towel around his neck. Sexy stuff was easy, though. Really easy, it didn’t take any thinking or scamming, just his body. Their eyes met, and Rusty didn’t have to ask what he was talking about, didn’t bother to pretend or lie to cover up what he’d just done. Rusty was desperate enough to take what one of his mom’s boyfriends used to call "that goddamned leap of faith, kid." Rusty didn’t have faith in himself anymore, and cocaine had robbed his mom of every bit he’d ever had in her, so… why the fuck not? If there was another way, he was at least ready to hear about it.
